Why to opt for generic drugs?
Reliability is the main issue that is highly considered while opting for any medication. Truly, health is the biggest concern of a person. And as they say, “Health is wealth.” People always question the credibility of a medicine no matter whether it’s a branded version or a generic one. There is always a hesitation prevailing before consuming a drug. Therefore it’s natural for people to question the dependability of a generic drug.
People normally underestimate the credibility of a generic drug. It’s because they measure products with their price. They think the more the price is the better the quality is. But it’s not the same with each and every product. One can produce a same product with the same quality investing a much lower price and sell it without going for advertisement and promotions.
The same thing happens with the case of generic drugs. As a generic drug is a replica of the brand drug, the generic drug manufacturer doesn’t have to invest in research and development purpose. The same exact formula of the branded version is applied to the production of the generic version. And as the branded version has already popularized the name, the generic version doesn’t need to invest anything for further promotion. And as per economics, the less the production and promotion cost is, the less the selling price is.
Generic drugs follow the same good manufacturing practices as its brand product as FDA doesn’t allow any drug producing company to exist without following its good manufacturing guidelines. And above all, as it is already described that generic version is the replica of its branded version; it also takes the same main active ingredients of its branded version. Hence the safety and effectual is as same as the branded version.
Then what’s the difference between a generic drug and its branded version? FDA doesn’t allow a generic version to be a look alike of its branded version. Therefore you will find a slight or sometimes a huge difference in the structure of the generic version from the branded one. And of course, the package is also quite different. Most importantly, the biggest difference that a generic drug makes is to your wallet. Generic drugs don’t make your wallet as light as the brand drugs do.
Therefore if one thinks wisely, he can get the same advantage in lower price by opting for generic drugs. What’s there in a name, if you get the same safety and effectiveness in a lower price? Would you like to get holes in your pocket only for a name? Well, the decision rests with you.
